Holiday sales are everywhere, but consumers are more cautious than ever about where they spend their money. And Amazon seems to be one platform consumers trust—a lot, actually.

As shoppers scour the internet for Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, 72% of American consumers trust Amazon over other retailers for online shopping, according to a recent study from HostingAdvice, which surveyed 1,000+ US adults in October.

Customers seemed to believe Amazon offered the most secure online holiday shopping experience, but it was certainly not the only top choice. Walmart emerged as the second safest holiday shopping option, chosen by 49% of respondents, followed by Target (35%), Best Buy (22%), and eBay (21%).

Shoppers were also less likely to trust some sites like Google Shopping (preferred by only 16% of respondents), followed by Facebook Marketplace (12%) and Wish (11%).

Of course, these were customers who, while remaining cautious, still did plan on shopping online for holiday presents this year. Meanwhile, some people won’t be handing out gifts for the holidays…at all. Yes, ’tis the season for responsible spending, you know?

WalletHub’s latest Holiday Shopping survey found that more than one in three Americans are skipping the holidays altogether because of inflation, and 28% of customers plan to spend less than last year. The results, though perhaps disheartening, aren’t surprising, considering consumers have been cutting back on spending, and a lot of retailers are relying on discounts to lure shoppers.—JS
