The start of the new year has been a time for new beginnings for many retail executives, as execs from beauty to fashion to grocery were on the move in January. Here are the most notable retail C-suite moves to know:

  • H&M CEO Helena Helmersson unexpectedly quit after four years in the role, saying, “It’s time for me to slow down, and you can’t do that in this job.” Daniel Ervér, a 18-year H&M vet and current head of its H&M brand, has taken over the top spot.
  • LVMH vet Michael Burke took over the role of chairman and CEO of LVMH Fashion Group, leading the company’s fashion labels including Céline and Marc Jacobs. He replaces Sidney Toledano, who departed to serve as advisor to LVMH founder and CEO Bernard Arnault.
  • Target tapped CFO Michael Fiddelke, who started with the retailer in 2003 as an intern, to take over the COO position left vacant by John Mulligan, who announced his retirement in October. Fiddelke will hold both roles until the retailer names a new CFO.
  • Beautycounter founder Gregg Renfrew returned to the CEO role after leaving the company in May 2022 after over 10 years as chief exec.
  • Pottery Barn Brands CEO Marta Benson is retiring from her role in April, the furniture company announced, with Pottery Barn president Monica Bhargava and Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Teen president Jennifer Kellor taking over her responsibilities.
  • Beyond Yoga co-founder Michelle Wahler stepped down from her role as CEO, replaced by former Old Navy and Athleta CEO Nancy Green. The company’s COO and CFO Jesse Adams also departed his role.
  • Laura Mercier owner Orveon Global announced former Crate & Barrel CEO Neela Montgomery as its CEO after founding CEO Pascal Houdayer stepped down in November.
  • Everlane CEO Andrea O’Donnell left her role to join DSW owner Designer Brands as its EVP of designer brands.
  • After completing the acquisition of FreshDirect in December, rapid delivery company Getir named Hatice Evren its US group CEO of Getir and FreshDirect and Walmart vet Sloan Eddleston as CEO of FreshDirect.
  • Casper brought on Joe Megibow, former CEO of rival mattress and bedding company Purple, as its new CEO.
  • Rent the Runway COO and president Anushka Salinas resigned amid a restructuring plan that laid off 10% of its corporate workforce.
