Foxtrot and Dom’s Kitchen and Market announced they’re ceasing operations, effective today. All 33 Foxtrot locations and two Dom’s grocery stores have closed their doors in Chicago, Austin, Dallas, and Washington, DC.

“We explored many avenues to continue the business but found no viable option despite good faith and exhaustive efforts,” Dom’s shared in a statement on its website, which Foxtrot shared on its social media accounts. “We understand that this news may come as a shock, and we apologize for any inconvenience it may cause. We genuinely appreciate your understanding during this challenging time.”

As of today, delivery, store operations, store credits, and all customer-facing operations have ceased, per the Dom’s website. All account credit and member perks have also expired.

Corporate workers were told via conference call this morning that stores would close by noon, Eater Chicago reported, while “store workers were left in the dark.” Substack newsletter Snaxshot claimed parent company Outfox Hospitality is filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Outfox Hospitality has not returned Retail Brew’s request for comment.

Foxtrot and Dom's announced a merger in November, forming a new entity, Outfox Hospitality, with the shared vision of “bringing the convenience of a market together with the experience of a restaurant,” per a press release.

The company saw leadership changes earlier this year, as CEO Liz Williams, who took over the role in April 2023 from co-founder Mike LaVitola, stepped down in February, replaced by former Whole Foods exec Rob Twyman, who assumed the role on March 11.

Dom’s debuted in 2021, founded by Bob Mariano, former CEO of grocery chain Mariano’s. Foxtrot first opened in Chicago in 2014 as an online operation before expanding to retail, LaVitola had previously told Retail Brew, combining a local neighborhood retailer and eatery with fast delivery. Foxtrot was still opening new locations as of January, when it unveiled its 33rd store in Washington, DC.
