If you think you’ve seen everything, think again. Dolce & Gabbana is launching a perfume for dogs. And yes, we’re being serious.
Named after Dolce & Gabbana co-founder Domenico Dolce’s dog, Fefé, the alcohol-free scented mist for dogs is at the center of the Italian luxury retailer’s new promotional campaign film featuring different breeds of dogs. “I am delicate, authentic, charismatic, sensitive, enigmatic, rebel, fresh, irresistible, clean. ’Cause I’m not just a dog, I’m Fefé,” it says.
“We’re distributing Fefé right away throughout Europe, in the US and then, little by little, we’ll expand; it’s already available online,” co-founder Stefano Gabbana told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. “The market has reacted well; everyone went crazy at the announcement.”
Priced at 99 euros ($108), the fragrance features notes of musk, sandalwood, and ylang ylang, and is packaged in a special glass bottle with a 24-carat-gold-plated paw print.
As strange as it may sound, Dolce & Gabbana is not the first retailer to introduce a perfume for dogs. British retailers including Harrods already sell dog fragrances. Even the late Queen Elizabeth debuted her own dog cologne.
In fact, it seems high-end retailers are unafraid to give pretty much anything a shot these days. Last year, French luxury house Dior introduced a $230 fragrance for babies, with notes of pear, cotton, and petals. The perfume was part of the Baby Dior fragrance and skincare line for infants because…why not? Just goes to show, where there’s a will, there’s a perfume.
