Wedding essentials were a big draw on Shopify in January

January was wedding season on Shopify as items related to wedding finery drove significant sales on the platform that builds e-commerce stores, per the latest data from Shopify shared first exclusively with Retail Brew.
Sales of typical wedding items like corsages and boutonnières spiked 80% compared to December across Shopify stores. Orders for wedding invitations jumped 50%, followed closely by bridal party dresses, which were up 47%. Sales of wedding dresses rose 24% among shoppers. Meanwhile, address labels, presumably to go on wedding invitations, saw a whopping 940% increase.
Babies are coming: Life progresses, even on Shopify, with sales of baby essentials also picking up in January. Consumers shelled out money to buy items like nursery rocking chairs (up 116%), baby swings (up 93%), bedside bassinets (up 73%), and baby bouncers (up 38%).
Fit and fine: Dry January accompanied a rush to get back into shape. Orders of fitness gear spiked in January compared to December. Shoppers picked up spin exercise bikes (up 120%), Pilates towers (up 59%), kettlebells (up 50%), and sports drinks (up 3%).
Dietary products and wellness items to track that fitness journey were also a big draw. Orders for nut drinks spiked 128%, while sales of body weight scales jumped 110%. Sales of vitamins and digestive supplements both rose more than 40%. Orders for yogurt makers and nutrition bars rose 37% and 24%, respectively.
Snow glitter: Snow storms across the US kept orders for snow shovels at a peak, rising 212%. Shoppers also bought snow tubes (up 139%), and hockey pucks (up 32%) to enjoy the outdoors.
