Shopify shoppers favored sewing supplies, gym clothes, and sports cards in February

Sewing and quilting supplies made a big comeback on Shopify in February.
Handcrafted items and functional DIY projects sparked increased sales for quilting thread (up 201%), quilting rulers (up 131%), craft cutters and embossers (up 88%), and straight pins (up 87%), per the latest data from Shopify shared with Retail Brew.
The platform that builds e-commerce stores also noted a spike in orders for custom fashion in February. Consumers spent more on customizing clothes with fabric repair kits (up 80%), printable fabric (up 60%), buttons (up 31%), and linen (up 20%).
Hustle for that muscle: Sales of exercise gear also soared as shoppers decided to sweat it out in anticipation of that great summer body. Orders for tank tops popped 225%. Meanwhile, consumers also shelled out money for ab wheels (up 190%) and stair steppers (up 165%). Orders for jogger shorts (up 75%), and track jackets (up 38%) also went up compared to January.
Dinner dates with a view: Valentine’s Day gatherings came alive in February as sales of tablescape essentials spiked. Consumers had fun customizing their dinner dates with elements like place cards (up 157%), cocktail decorations (up 121%), dining tables (up 108%), and fresh cut flowers (up 106%).
Did someone say spring?: With spring around the corner, homeowners put money toward upgrading garden areas and front porches. Orders for gardening scooters, seats, and kneelers popped 165%. Items like watering spikes (up 135%), outdoor umbrellas (up 86%), and mulch (up 71%) also saw a bump. Sales of pergolas (up 69%), sprinklers (up 45%), plant bulbs (up 40%), and gardening accessories (up 31%) also increased.
Game night: Growth in collectibles and interactive toys showed consumers spend on both nostalgic memorabilia and other games. Orders for sports trading cards rose a whopping 848% last month. Meanwhile, sales of animal figures (up 307%), play dough and putty (up 92%), football toys (up 59%), and bobblehead figures (up 51%) also ticked up.
