Sustainability comes first for the company, and that extends to its new space.

We are living in a materials science world—and one that’s expanding for Pangaia. The ethical apparel company will open its first IRL space in North America today, in partnership with Nordstrom.
- The pop-ups will be in 13 Nordstrom locations through May, as part of the department store’s New Concepts platform.
- London–based Pangaia debuted its first pop-up in Selfridges last year.
Put it to use: Sustainability is key for Pangaia, a global collective that includes designers and scientists, and that extends to its new space. The company plans to offset the entire carbon footprint of the “retail experience” of the pop-ups (plus 10%), even taking into account things like employee commutes.
- It also hopes to teach shoppers about its innovative tech and materials, such as FLWRDWN, which incorporates dried wildflowers. (Do we spot a growing trend?)
“Positive change comes from the collective behavior of people and businesses alike, and our partnership with Nordstrom is no exception,” the Pangaia Collective noted in the release.
- Some consumers are already making the change: The company brought in $75 million in net sales in 2020.
Bump: As for Nordstrom, the partnership bolsters its “sustainable style” category; it says it wants 15% of all its products to be green by 2025. The retailer also plans to donate $1 million to support innovation in textile recycling by then as well.—KM
