Hey there, and welcome back to our weekly roundup of weird news in retail. This week, we have scoured the internet to find truly (and as always) strange news but bits that are also entertaining. Don’t believe us? Keep reading.

This week, a thief broke into an LA wine shop in the most bizarre fashion and stole $600,000 worth of rare wines, and a popular root beer brand has lost a lawsuit over real vanilla vs. a synthetic substitute, and many customers are now entitled to get their money back.

  • Starbucks is offering an espresso martini class where students can learn how to create a signature Starbucks Reserve Espresso Martini from a “Starbucks expert mixologist.”
  • An agile thief cut a hole through the ceiling of an LA wine shop, used a rope to lower himself, and then made off with $600,000 in vintage and rare wines.
  • You may be entitled to at least $5.50 if you ever bought a root beer from A&W.

And as usual, there was an extra treat for our loyal newsletter readers in our Friday, July 14, edition, but sadly we may have misled you when we claimed that Burger King Vietnam will pay for your entire trip to Hanoi, including flights and hotels, if you can finish every dish from their local menu in one sitting. Well, not that we wouldn’t love a free trip to Vietnam, but we’re thinking Burger King can definitely find someone local to gulp down all the items on its menu.
