Shopify shoppers bought outdoorsy items in April

April was about bringing outdoor spaces like yards and pools back to life for customers shopping on Shopify stores, according to data shared first with Retail Brew.
A new survey from the Conference Board suggests that overall consumer sentiment ticked up in April. The Consumer Confidence Index climbed 0.6 points to 92.8, up slightly from 92.2 in March.
Yard work: The spring reset continued well into April as people shelled out money to buy lawn maintenance tools, especially wagons, which saw orders spike more than 4,744%. Orders for tools like grass edgers (up 697%), sun shades (up 254%), plant cages (up 242%), and garden hoses (up 232%) also spiked.
Shoppers also prepared to create proper outdoor spaces to keep their dogs comfortable in the summer. Orders for dog houses spiked 1,910%, while people splurged on dog kennels and runs (up 412%), and stuffed toys and plushies (up 163%).
Pool time: Customers also started getting everything ready for pool season. Orders for rash guards and swim shirts jumped 671%, while orders for pool maintenance kits and water slides rose 163% and 112%, respectively.
Gone golfing: And it’s prime time for golf season. Golf club shafts peaked at 197%, golf parts and accessories rose 86%, while putting mats, golf gloves, and swing trainers jumped 60%, 37%, and 24%, respectively.
